Mini

Well I went from a “quick” car to a fun car.

In Late June I totaled my Focus ST thanks to me falling asleep like a couple miles from home. So the next car I wanted I didn’t want a car payment, but I did want something fun to drive.  Test drove a bunch of car in my budget ($3000) but none of them were anything I really wanted.

Test drove a Mini Cooper R53, it wasn’t fast or that quick but it was super fun to drive, had the go kart feeling to it.

Even though the Mini Coopers (N14 motors) are one of the most unreliable cars to own I took a chance and bought it.

So here it was 2004 Mini Cooper S (R53)

So far here is what has been done:

  • Replaced cloth seats with leather ones
  • Megan Racing catless dp
  • Megan Racing Exhaust
  • Detroit Tuned bypass valve
  • Alta CAI
  • MSD coilpack and wires
  • 1 step colder plugs
  • 17% Alta SC reduction pulley
  • Sparco racing wheel
  • DDM works IC diverter
  • Megan Racing Strut brace
  • New Radiator
  • GIAC Tune by Tyrol Motorsports
  • 17″ refinished
  • Matte Midnight Blue wrap

Here are the final parts im waiting to install in the spring

  • Valeo Single mass flywheel clutch
  • Oil temp, Oil pressure, Boost gauges
  • AirTec TMIC
  • Helix rearset delete
  • 550cc injectors
  • RMW tune
  • Stock headers (to get inspected)

And then it turned blue

Overall its been a fun car to work on. I have a leak in the powersteering line so I need to swap out the feed line that goes from the reservoir to the pump, and going to check the timing chain tensioners and replace them if.

Side note once my mom drove my car like two weeks later she bought her own Gray 2002 R53.I’d like to think mine is faster but they are probably the same and my 20 year old Volvo is faster then these cars lol, but not as fun to drive!

UPDATE: Finally finished everything on the Mini and ended up selling it 🙁

Here are the final pics and projects

Clutch

Coilovers

Intercooler and more

Sold the Mini, told the buyer if he ever thinks about selling it to call me… Already miss that little car.
